all I have to do is watch one of the other 80% of scripted shows out there, and the NCIS writing looks like Pulitzer material. :banghead:

The week before Halloween there was a Bones/Sleepy Hollow crossover special. I don't watch Bones, but I did for the sake of seeing the Sleepy Hollow characters, and the writing for the Bones ep was cringe-worthy (the actors didn't help, either. Ugh). I know Sleepy Hollow isn't exactly Pulitizer material, either, but I can enjoy it because it's kinda campy and the writers seem to know it ;D

I think it's the characters that keep me watching a show rather than the writing. If I still care about them, I'll still watch (as long as my work schedule allows it :banghead: )

And yes, the humor on NCIS will always be one of my favorite parts about it. I feel like some people wish it was more serious sometimes & I'm like, but then it wouldn't be the same show.

Exactly; the mix of humor with the investigation of the week is what made NCIS different than the norm when it got going. Maybe the complaints to have the show be more serious are at least in part not that they sue humor, but that they just get ridiculous with some of it, and it can be TOO much, or ham-handed, or just wrong -- for example, over the years they've used Tony a lot for comic relief, but when it was clear that the audience liked it, they went too far, and ended up with a number of tone-deaf episodes when it comes to his character. When the humor is in tune, it's great; when it's bad, it's becomes am embarrassing, irritating rendering of the character (like MW in that 'fat Elvis' costume... :P ).

They have the same problem with over-Abbying Abby, and making Tim more whiny than they should -- all in the name of human interest? :-/

I'm assuming you mean use humor, not sue humor, right? I'm probably daft, but I read this several times before that occurred to me... I think that Buffy spoiled me for having an otherwise serious show use humor well... I've come to NEED that in my shows. Probably one reason I watch NCIS. But occasionally, the 'joke' is just a bit too far... Kielbasa was a bit too far. But they suck at writing women, so not really surprised.

If you're going to beat up on Tony like that, yes, you'd better sent me that link, Pat! You may have started the poor boy on his downhill slide to a lifelong battle with wood... :lol2:

(What will this mean for his visiting Gibbs from now on, what with all the sawdust in the air???)

Am I the only one who's gonna comment on the fact that there supposedly was a "Feel the Wood" challenge here in 2008? I can't stop giggling like a schoolgirl.

The plot bunnies are already working overtime and I haven't even looked up the challenge yet. Maybe we need a repeat of that one.

Finally got to watch this on Sunday, and yes poor Tony, even B thought it funny, but still think it sad to keep making fun of MW.

On another note my Criminal/Forensic course just covered the DNA/hair thing 1999
