Ha! I didn't really think of him as looking like Ron Swanson, but I did notice the name (I'm currently binge-watching Parks and Rec for the first time)

He was a combination of Ron Swanson, Capt. Stottlemeyer, and Ron Burgundy. I couldn't stop laughing.

If they kill Fornell I think I am done.

Combine that with Michael Weatherly leaving and all joy will be gone from the show. Seriously. As a former first responder, I will tell you that humor, even black, twisted humor is a requirement for surviving the job. Both of them manage to balance the serious content of the show with humor and color.

Fornell may well be my favorite character in the show at this point. He's definitely my favorite guest star and one of the best actors on the series. I really do believe that they should be promoting him to show regular rather than killing him off. But sadly, no one asked me.

I am with you, Blue. If they kill him, I can't see myself not watching (bc if my OTHER favorite character leaving didn't make me stop, nothing will), but I will be FURIOUS. There is no reason whatsoever for them to kill him. Not only is he basically a series regular at this point, but people love him and I mean, are they REALLY going to orphan Emily? That is mean. The writers were joking about tweeting out pictures of caskets & I was like, not funny, guys. So I'm hoping they're just trying to rile people up with those tweets.

All affection for Fornell aside (AND I LOVE HIM, don't get me wrong), I think making Emily an orphan would be horrible. If Joe Spano actually wanted to leave, I'm sure there are loads of better options than killing him, and if he doesn't want to leave, I don't see any merit in killing him.

First off, i loved FLOTUS, i might have done a little flailing there.

I didn't like that they had the whole case next to the russian spy thing, i mean, Tim connecting with the kid was nice but it felt a bit like filler material.

Fornell, i am having mixed feelings about that whole situation. I knew she was going to die but i hope Fornell survives. I wouldn't add anything to the whole case and they can't keep killing regulars an recurring gueststars. He'll probably pull trough though. He has too.

I really hope they don't kill him off at any point. He was in the very first episode of the series. I really do hope he's in the last one... and that he gets to walk off into the sunset...

On an unrelated note, I think that if any more regulars leave, it's time to end the series. They haven't developed an organic habit of having personnel move on the way they did it on the original Law and Order, and so we've completely become family with these characters. So, we need to hold onto those we've got left and when one or more of them decides to move on, I think it should end.

Well, there is always Cyril to step in and pull off the same surgical miracle with Fornell as he did with Gibbs...

... Although, can you imagine the snarktastic comments he'll have for that?

"You already slept with my wife, now you want my surgeon?"

Honestly, if it meant we got to keep Fornell, I'm 100% good with Taft being the miracle surgeon guy.

I liked Taft, but I'm biased because the actor strongly reminds me of someone I know.

But yeah, that would also make his recurring role almost a warning... like he had reason to come back over and over again. It was foreshadowing, I tell you! (At least, I HOPE that's the case).

I'm with you guys. If Joe Spano got a great gig and knew he couldn't do any more episodes, it would be awful not to have him around, but it could be done in all sorts of ways short of killing him. (Make him SAC of some far off place like Alaska or LA or Seattle -- or, since he deserves it, Honolulu!)

I hope that their bringing in TWO new faces for S14 is more about saying "we can't replace Tony with just anyone, so let's have 2" and not "for S14 we need to freshen and retool and revive so let's scrap a bunch of stuff to clear the decks!"

My bigger hope is that the Fornell thing is the angst/cliffie portion of our show, and the Morrow thing was the shock/surprise portion. Come to think of it, all the tragic surprise deaths on the show -- Kate, Paula, Jackie, Diane -- have been immediate, right? (Michelle lingered, what, 15 seconds?) The fact that he didn't die outright would give him great odds under the NCIS formula (and YES, I am crossing all fingers & toes so I won't jinx him!)

... I'm not gonna lie, the idea of Fornell being sent to Honolulu is giving me all kinds of Rosefernverse bunnies ;D

I really hope you're right about the whole NCIS immediate death thing, Shy *also crossing all available digits and touching wood, etc etc*. Same goes for Dorney (okay, it wasn't surprising, because Gary spoiled it hugely, but you know what I mean) and Jenny. And even Pacci, which was more of a low key thing in that he wasn't a main character (and they did foreshadow it in the previous episode). Mike Franks, I mean he was dying (ditto Jenny) but his actual death wasn't drawn out.

... okay, I'm looking for lots of reasons to think you're right, can you tell???

Suffice to say, obviously they are unlikely to change things last minute, but if they kill Fornell off, I will be emailing TPTB and telling them their casual use of death as drama sucks just as much as it did the last bajillion times they did it. And also can they try and be a tiny bit more imaginative...

(My headcanon, outside of my AUs, will always be that Gibbs and Fornell will become PIs after retirement and Diane will forever be on their cases. This will remain my headcanon regardless of who they kill off.)

Honestly, the more I think about it, the less I think Fornell is going to die. Him being in serious condition is a great way to get ratings, and if he were going to die the beans would have been spilled a long time ago. I mean, they made a huge deal about Dorney dying last year and he wasn't evena quarter as popular as Fornell (no offense to the character or the actor, but certainly not the staple that Fornell is). Fornell will linger (maybe even into the end of the season, with a "Will he survive?" cliffhanger to ensure people watch the Season 14 opener) but at this point I'd be surprised if the offed him completely.

I really hope you're right. I just saw one of those May sweeps scorecards with someone's speculations about NCIS bolded (I didn't pay attention to who, but I'm going to assume Alice) & under fatalities, apparently both MW & GG have said that someone "close to the team" WILL die. I don't know if that means Morrow, who was already killed, OR perhaps somebody kills Kort in the next episode or two (PLEASE, I would so much rather have him dead than Fornell), but it automatically made me want to cry because what if they DO kill Fornell? I feel like everyone's thinking they won't do it, but what if they do just because everyone's thinking that? UGH. I don't like it. I mean, thankfully there's a new episode tomorrow & hopefully that will answer all the questions we have, but damn.

My gosh, Lia, was just thinking that reading along here, thinking how Tony's character is clearly leaving the home offic -- & you beat me to it!

The set up is the same - all the goodbyes, etc. And GG & co would think it quite the clever twist (been done, Glasberg!). But they wouldn't do that to MW as a "you want to leave, so LEAVE" move... Would they?

I really can't remember, but did they spoil Diane's death? They're usually terrible (okay, by they I mean Gary) at keeping secrets like that, it seems (witness all the Dorney spoilers), but I seem to remember Diane's death being a genuine surprise for people.

It would also explain the hoohah over casting a new FBI agent :-/

I really hope they don't go there, for so many reasons. I will be seriously p'd off if they kill Fornell, it just seems so unnecessary to leave Emily an orphan. I can't see any good reason to kill him.

Besides Morrow, is anyone else 'close to the team' being featured these last few episodes? I don't remember.

Trent Kort can die, that'd definitely be better :P

I was talking to some friends on Twitter last night and one brought up an option I can't believe I hadn't thought of, and makes total sense - she thinks they're going to kill Ziva. I mean, we already know she "figures prominently" into Tony leaving (or at least into these last few eps) & I think the Fornell thing is going to be a smokescreen for that. That's just the sort of thing that might drive Tony to finally say, "Okay, I'm done," ya know? We shall see. And honestly, I love Ziva, but knowing she will likely never come back to the show, I'd rather see that than killing off a semi-regular who enjoys being there...

... you know, someone suggested that to me as a semi-joke, but that was before I heard the someone definitely dies rumour.

That would IMO be vastly preferable. I didn't want Ziva to die when Cote was leaving, and I still think it would've devastated them all, but now she's been gone several years I think it would be much less devastating for the team. And from an outside perspective, as a viewer I'd be way less upset about losing a character who is probably never coming back versus Fornell.

(It's occurred to me just now, they actually killed Fornell once already, only to reveal it was faked. I feel like it'd be pretty mean to kill the poor guy twice.)

I just saw a sneak peek in which Bishop said Emily 'can't lose another parent', which actually makes me hope they don't kill Fornell, like if they've actually thought about it (orphaning her) enough to write about it then they (hopefully) have really thought out that and be callus enough to do it to her. (Or to Gibbs, he'd be devastated, I'm sure.)

I really hope I'm right.

I was telling somebody else about it & she mentioned how this show likes to kill women to ensure maximum man pain & that would definitely make Tony angsty. :P

Well in this instance, I'm afraid I will take Tony!pain over Emily!pain and Gibbs!pain. So here's hoping...

... I feel kind of bad for hoping one character will die, but if it means we get to keep Fornell, I'll live with that

Interesting - agreed it's a very plausible final straw for Tony, and since they've taken us this far without more gelled as to why he's leaving (and her whole house blowing up thing), even more so. As a variation on that theme, he could quit and go off looking for an again-missing Ziva (he found her before!) but I would expect more urgency from him to get started on looking if that was the plot, not the slower, centered-looking scenes they showed us for next week.

Either way - I'm gonna lose Tony no matter how they do it, so how they write him out isn't too important anymore -- but c'mon. Fornell? That would just be lunacy to dump Fornell.

Agreed, Shy. I mean, even in the event Joe Spano wanted to leave, I think killing Fornell would be a horrible decision. There are so many better options for a long-running and beloved character, especially when the poor guy already lost his wife and his daughter lost her mum.

I call them ZivaQuests™. There's been at least 2 so far. Very Quixotic. Oh, we just stumbled upon some poetry here. How fitting for a character who's spent his life chasing after things but who has never quite caught anything at all.

Yeah, that's what I thought last night when they announced she was the target. Perfect opportunity to kill someone close to the team (with less flack from fans since she's been gone awhile), and it could definitely be an impetus to Tony's exit. I'm pretty sure Ziva's toast... (pun unintentional, but too "Palmer" to delete).

Honestly, much as I detest all the fridging, I'd sort of be relieved if it was Ziva. If it is a character who was probably never coming back anyway versus current character? No contest. Sorry, Zee.

I feel like I'd see a bunch of people crying about how CBS hates women & why kill another woman when they could have killed a man, etc. and I don't even want to hear it because Fornell needs to stay alive. :P Like, sorry. That's the general line of thinking on Tumblr especially and in this case it would irritate me even more because a lot of these people haven't even been watching since Ziva left, but the moment they hear her name mentioned, they're the biggest fans again... I know people have a right to watch or not watch whatever and whenever they want, but that is one thing that annoys me about the current situation.

Good lord. If that's the case, Tony's gonna be a wreck. He can go into the final stage of his three year mental breakdown. Poor lamb.

I hear you, Sherry. The number of people I have seen who somehow manage to claim they haven't watched since Cote left and simultaneously they know the show is now rubbish make my brain hurt :banghead:

As much I dislike fridging of female characters, in this case, I don't see any benefit in saving a character who left years ago over a current one who has a daughter. All affection for Fornell aside, the Emily angle alone would just make his death unacceptable to me. Leaving a teenaged daughter an orphan? Just nope. Sorry Ziva, sorry Tony, no contest.

At the moment I'm hoping they're not going there, but I'll feel a lot better when they get to the end of episode 24 and he's still breathing

I really quite enjoyed this one, and wasn't Vance and Fornell a scream. Must say it makes you wonder how Fornell managed to get back to Britain after hearing last week he had been inside...........but there you go scriptwriters can do anything, and any prob find Obama and Cameron did a deal with MI6 and MI5 and James Bond and Felix.

Strange not seeing Tony but then I suppose he is going so was on garden leave.

loved England, but was wondering it was a right hand drive pickup they were driving? and what was the reg I didn't get too good a look at at and it didn't look like a British number plate.

And the name of the pub, oh fanfic coming on

It's sad that I'd be more surprised if they got that right, to be honest

All of the scenes in "England" were egregiously phony. You'd think the English were stuck in the 19th century what with all the sheep roaming about, dogs and smokers in the pub, shotgun-wielding barkeep...

Then there was the super-secret-trade-off -- supposedly set up by Tony -- that took place in one of the most crowded places in all of London.

That was hilarious, and the taxi driver didn't say a word like right. But I must say I did miss the smoking bit, and yes the sheep grazing in the yard
Dogs are allowed in and some "Olde Worlde" pubs do look a little like that (I believe)
