Okay, so twice now I've tried to start posting a story to the board and when I try to paste my chapter into the box, it shuts down my browser...as in it closes down the window. That's happened twice...and it's never happened before. Perhaps it's just a transitory problem with my computer. Regardless, I'm not going to try it again right now.

On the main page of what? Can you give me a link? Are you speaking of the forum here or the story board?

Ahh, I see you mean on the main page of the story board here. That is strange. If you click on the NCIS:LA link, it takes you to a list of NCIS:LA stories which contains your story (first one) so your story is registering fine. The board is just misbehaving - again - and saying there are no stories when there are. I might copy this down to the Story board question and answers forum and ask if this is another 'known bug' that I don't know about.

Just a general question that maybe someone can help with. I'm registered on the forum via a Gmail email address, and about 3 months ago, I stopped getting emailed when a topic I'm "watching" is updated. By watching, I mean I've clicked the box for "Notify me when a reply is posted".

I now get an email notification about every fifth private message sent to me, and maybe one in twenty thread update emails.

I've checked my Gmail stats and spam, and the NFA domain is in approved senders. The emails are not in spam or junk mail, they just never arrive.

Does anyone have any suggestions or insight?

Edited to add:

I just checked on the story board, and I *should* be getting notifications when someone reviews me there, and I never have gotten those either.

Thanks so much :)
TG

You have written your email adres on the storyboard with a Gmail instead of gmail, maybe it is case sensitive.

Otherwise I wouldn't know, because I can't see if you have your preferences set right so that is all I can come up with at this moment why you are not getting your mails from the storyboard.

I get some emails, but not all. For example, I probably have 30 topics on notification to send new replies to me. This one and at least one other had new replies. I didn't get a notification for this post, but I did for the other. It seems to be quite random :(

I spoke to a friend last evening who has a domain email address she uses for her NFA account (meaning she has her own domain rather than using an account she was given through her ISP) and she doesn't get the NFA emails consistently either :(

With respect to settings, on the forum here I have "notify me of new private messages" checked. I just enabled the "Notify me upon replies by default" to yes. My email address is set to taylorgibbs @ gmail . com (I'm positing it here *with* spaces only to thwart any spambots). It is posted in my user control account settings area without the spaces.

This is the storyboard help forum part.

I was replying to this up there ^^ for which you say you get no mails at all. The mail address could be case sensitive so maybe if you adjust the email address, one part of the problem could be solved.

I have changed a setting and hopefully with that solved the problem about not receiving any mails for the topics you have subscribed too.

:typing: I was trying to post my first story on the story board. I pressed add new story and filled in the form When I pressed preview it showed the story was part of another author's series. Any thoughts :comphit:

Everyone gets that one, Amy. It's a known and harmless bug. Just continue with adding the story; it's not really going to add it to a series. :)

One of my challenge stories still has a blue ribbon on it and therefore the title is invisible. It's Cape Fear, could I have a red ribbon instead so it's easier to see the link to click?

I never figured out what the different color ribbons meant, but now I'll just be happy to see the link.

I think Angelique is still working on that problem with the title being half-hidden for blue-ribboned stories (it's like half a horizontal line off). It seems to have been something that came in with the last systems upgrade in December. I'll be happy to change that to a red ribbon for you now, though.

Blue ribbons are recent winners (so-called "featured stories"). Red ribbons are retired featured stories. Steph (sunset_leaf) goes through the list about once a month and retires (changes to red) all of the blue ribbons, and puts up the new blue ribbons.

Yeah, I meant to mention that with the blue ribbons when I was going through updating links for the Current Nominees. Glad to see it's being looked at. :)

Can anyone tell me how to reply to a review? I would like to thank those who took the time to tell me what they thought of my stories. Any help would be welcome.

You should see a small button labeled "respond" below each review, if you're logged into the Story Board. Click on that and it will bring up a big box, labeled "author's response", for you to type in your reply. Hit "submit" below that when you're done.

If you're not seeing all that, let us know here and we'll investigate.

You may have to do some experimenting and see what's easiest. The Story Board reacts differently (apparently) to different types and versions of browsers, as well as different word processing programs. For example, you may have the same word processing program, but chances are that on your new computer you have a newer version of Internet Explorer (or Firefox, or whatever) than you had on your old computer.

Some people have more success if they copy and paste a story that's already been posted here on their author forum, rather than pasting a document from their computer.

Pat,

Let me approach this from a different angle. What I'm going to give you below is sort of an all-purpose approach.

First, be sure that you nave the tinyMCE WYSWYG editor open. If you don't, go to Account Info (on the left side of your screen when you are in the Story Board, then go to Edit Preferences, and in there click on Use tinyMCE WYSWYG editor and then click Submit,

Now, paste in your story in the usual way. Before you hit Add Story, instead click Preview. That will show you how your story will look if you don't make any changes to it. If you need to, you can now use the tinyMCE WYSWYG editor to edit your story by changing the spacing in your paragraphs, adding bold or italics, etc. When you've done that, you can then hit Add Story.

Pam I thank you for your advice, unfortuneatley I have/did try all that last night for 3/4hr, (I always have tiny on anyway). Maybe I should have said what do most people save their work as. I did some experimenting and saved as plain text, this seems to have been ok, I think. I used to save in word 06-09 and all was well. I also tried to copy from my board as, you suggested this too worked. But as initially wondered what do most people save word docs as.

That's an intersting question, Pat. I don't know the answer.

Why don't you start a thread for that; say, in the Conference Room?

I asked this in "The Death Fic Challenge" thread, but I thought asking here would also be of help.

I went to post my entry for this challenge in the storyboard. It's about 3:10 am and I may be missing it, but I didn't see the challenge thread posted for this. Am I just missing it or is it really not there? I looked in the correct letter (which is T I think) and I just didn't see it.

Thanks for the help. :)

It is up now, but it's under D. We don't add all the Thes to the challenges. Otherwise, almost everything would be under T. :)

I found the story on your story list and have added it to the challenge.

I don't understand how the Story Board orders things. It would be nice if all of the lists were alphabetical, making things easier to find. :)

tried to post story tonight, did all the stuff I was supposed to, typed it into the text box and went to preview and it told me that I needed to put the story in the text box (I did-really I did)
So anyway, all my stuff was gone so I am going to beg you for assistance then go to bed and deal with it tomorrow
thanks

If you're typing your story directly into the story space, it's possible that the Story Board timed out before you hit the "preview" button. (It won't say that it has done so, but I suspect there is a time out limit built in; I think I ran into this once before.) The Story Board is really designed to have you paste in stories that are either online or on your computer somewhere already. You may still need to do some tweaking of your story to make it look nice after you've pasted it and hit the preview button, but it;s not that hard. Due to the vast number of possibilities of how text is pasted in (such as a text document of some type from your computer, or pasting from somewhere online, and your type of browser, and for all I know the phases of the moon) there's no simple way of saying "do this and then do that". You may have to play around a bit to see what works best for you. But it is all possible!

Do you have the TinyMCE enabled in your account setting on the Story Board? See here to do that. It will make editing your story, and adding things like italics and pictures, much easier.

I have the tiny MCE thing on :)
I have tried uploading from my pc, as well as pasting the text (in addition to last night's typing it all in) and still no luck
Do I need to put the document in something other than Word to upload it?
I'll keep playing with it but it's getting a little frustrating-probably a user error, but if you think of something let me know
thanks :)

There are three boxes there, one for chapter notes, one for the actual story text and one for end notes, so make sure you're putting it in the right box. I've done that many times, where I copied & pasted and did all my editing and submitted, only to find out I put my story in the Chapter Notes section. Duh. Haha. ;D It happens to the best of us. So second box! That's your goal. If you're already doing that, I'm not sure what to tell you. Hmm.

If you are trying to upload the edited file into the NFA storyboard, you have to save the file as HTML (end extension of the file is .HTM or .HTML). If you try to upload it as as WORD document (the extension of the file as .DOC) the system will not accept it.

That's why I usually simply past it to the STORY box... and add the tags HTML in the middle of the text....

OK, I think I pretty much have a handle on this thing, but for some reason :gah: some "Thom Gemcity" series shows up on my story under the series thingy (it was doing that on the first one as well) Not my series, and didn't mark it as a series-so what can i do to get rid of it?
Sorry that I seem to be having so much trouble with this...I'm not stupid (really I'm not-I just feel like it)
Thanks

The storyboard is messing with me. :banghead:

I have two stories I wrote that aren't listed in or under "Stories by SongBirdie-101". They're there when I looked at 'manage my stories' but not "Stories by Songbirdie-101". I can find them in the search engine, or under their categories, but why aren’t they showing up with my other stories? :P

The name of the two stories are Kissing in the Rain and One Last Goodbye.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. :)

How many stories are on your profile? I know that it only lists the most recent stories if you click on someone's profile, and for some reason, won't let you look beyond the first page. Or at least that's how it was before. I'm not sure why that is.

35 stories, Sherry. ;D

I'm aware of the first page only gig. It's very annoying when your trying to find older stories, really, it's annoying period. Is there a way to change it? :-/

Thanks for your quick reply. :)

I think it's maybe a software thing? That's not really my particular area of expertise, so I'm not going to touch anything to do with that, lol. Maybe one of the other administrators or moderators knows more, though. :)
